![]() I seriously had doubts about whether this Dorman key would even program correctly to the car, but I guess my doubts were soon unfounded. An interesting note at this point is that I could also push the spring loaded gate in the key slot with my finger and the ignition would also turn on meaning that the key slot was not actually reading the key at this point but rather the steering lock release function allowed the ignition to turn on as long as the gate in the key slot was pushed on. Even though I got the error message the function apparently did its job because I then inserted the new Dorman key into the key slot and pushed the start button and the ignition immediately turned on. 2011 White ST Patrol, ARB winch Bar, snorkel, Cargo Barrier, tow bar, 2' OME lift, Front locker, dual battery. I had broken the key reader which then stopped my car from starting. When performing the steering lock release with the Autoland, I put in my 4 digit pin and it accepted the pin but then threw an error message saying that the function did not complete properly. This led to copper wire spilling out and I have since found out that my car will not start. Even though this car does not have a steering lock module it is still necessary to perform the steering lock release because it actually erases all the stored key id's. After further checking it appears like they discontinued the lock on vehicles built in 2010 but that the 2009 models would have the lock and even the cars built in 2009 after July which would be considered 2010. According to one service information source it should have one. I inspected the steering column expecting to see a steering lock mechanism but could not find any. ![]() If that doesn’t work, we recommend you to call a locksmith and have them rekey your ignition lock.One thing that had me confused for a bit was that the steering wheel was not locked. What we recommend you to do is to try to make a new key either by your car’s VIN number or key code. If your key is stuck in the ignition, it can be because of a simple problem with the key, or a bigger problem with your ignition lock. After you get the key code, you can either take the lock itself or just the number to a locksmith and have them cut you a new key from the key code.
